Biography: Johannes (Jan) Huber was born in 1947 in Groningen, The Netherlands. He was educated in the Netherlands and in the United States, where he received his M.A. in East Asian Studies from Princeton University in 1975. He entered the Netherlands Foreign Service in 1979 and served in various posts in East Asia. From 1997 to 2004 he was Chairman of the Netherlands Polar Affairs Committee and the Netherlands representative in the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting and the Arctic Council. He was the first Executive Secretary of the Antarctic Treaty Secretariat from 2004 to 2009.
