Biography: David Walton is an ecologist with BSc in Botany from Edinburgh University and a PhD from Birmingham University. He worked for British Antarctic |Survey from 1967 to 2006 first as a research scientist and then as a science manager. He established the international journal Antarctic Science in 1989 and has been its Editor in Chief ever since. From 1993 to 2006 he was the Chair of SCAR's Group of Specialists on Environmental Affairs and Conservation (GOSEAC) and represented SCAR at Antarctic Treaty Meetings. He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Liverpool for the last 15 years. He has published and edited several books as well as over 100 research papers and 200 other contributions. He is at present writing a history of SCAR with Dr Peter Clarkson and a further book on politics and science in Antarctica.
